Natural Blood Clot Prevention Remedy

I never want to have a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) again. Seven years ago I had foot surgery that required me to be in a boot for six weeks and sadly a few days after I was out of my boot I developed a horrible pain in my leg. Thankfully I went right to the emergency room because I knew something was wrong. There I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my leg.

Once I was over the shock and scare of it all, I learned I had to be on blood thinners, monitor my diet and go off all my hormones for nine months! It was really a horrible time of my life. Blood clots are no joke and once you have one you are at risk of developing another for the rest of your life.

Fast forward to yesterday and I had to have ankle surgery and once again, be stuck in a boot for weeks. Of course I am apprehensive and a little nervous, but I have tools to keep me safe and to rest my mind.

First off, I am taking the blood thinner my surgeon prescribed because blood clots are not something to mess around with, but I also made a blend of essential oils that help with preventing the formation of a blood clot. When I am not up and moving around, I am icing and elevating my little leg. Movement is so important, too.

Inside the blend that I am applying topically to my leg is:

Add to a 10ml roller and top off with fractionated coconut oil. Apply to affected leg 3-4 times a day. Oh, and always follow your physicians advise and take every precaution you can. Serious things call for serious precautions.

Healthy Pumpkin Spice “Latte”

Did you know you can whip up a “latte” that is milk free?

This version gets its creaminess from almond butter instead of milk, which gives it a much richer, more concentrated coffee flavor, more similar to a version made with espresso. Using quality essential oils gives the best most spicy and earthy flavor with all the immune boosting benefits. Remember though to never ingest essential oils unless they have a supplement fact label on the bottle. I only trust one brand to take internally.

In a blender combine:

  • 1 cup hot brewed coffee
  • 1 teaspoon almond butter (or cashew butter)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or honey)
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin puree
  • 1 drop clove
  • 1 drop cinnamon
  • 1 drop ginger

Pour into a mug and serve right away.

Chakra Balancing Blends

There are seven major energy centers in the body known as ‘Chakras’. Chakra is a Sanskrit word that means “wheel”. Our seven main chakras are connected to our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Blocked energy in our seven chakras can often lead to illness, so it’s important to understand what each chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely.Chakras are invisible to the naked eye and yet interconnect our physical and spiritual selves. Each of the seven chakras is tied directly to a specific region and nerve center of the body.

It is believed that each of the chakras absorbs and filters the energy that we emit through our thoughts and actions as well as through the thoughts and actions of all those that we come into contact with. When one of the chakras is out of balance as a result of negative energy flowing through it, it begins to spin too slowly or too fast. When a chakra is not balanced, it can effect that physical region of the body and also effect very specific aspects of our spiritual and emotional selves.

There are many ways to go about balancing the chakras but two of the most accessible, effective and relaxing practices are aromatherapy and crystal therapy. When paired correctly, crystals and essential oils can create potent combinations that help to release blocked energy and restore the body to full charge.

Essential Oils and the Mind

HOW DO ESSENTIAL OILS AFFECT THE MIND?

Your sense of smell is much more accurate than any of your other senses. Your ability to smell comes from sensory cells called Olfactory Sensory Neurons, found in a small patch of tissue very high in your nose. Those cells connect to your brain.

Each of those sensory neurons has one odor receptor – and molecules released by substances around us stimulate these receptors. Once your neurons detect your molecules, they send messages to your limbic lobe of your brain.

Our sense of smell is 10,000 more sensitive than our other senses. Scent travels faster to the brain with smell than it does with sight, or even sound.

The limbic lobe is a group of brain structures that is below the cortex of the brain – it includes the amygdala and the hippocampus. Your limbic lobe (system of brain structures) is directly connected to the parts of your brain that control many aspects of your body – hormone levels, stress, memory, breathing, heart rate, and more.

The only way to stimulate the emotional brain is through your sense of smell – which is one of the reasons why Essential Oils can work so incredibly well. Feelings of depression, fear, anger, happiness, joy and even anxiety all originate from the limbic lobe of the brain.

Essential Oils can help alleviate symptoms at a cellular level through their therapeutic properties–because that stimulation of hormones and chemicals can drastically affect physiology and behavior.

Essential Oils can be stimulating (Peppermint), calming (Lavender), sedative (Cedarwood), balancing (Frankincense, and so much more.

My Top Five Essential Oils for Emotions:

  • Roman Chamomile: Helps support feelings of peace, love and acceptance.
  • Cedarwood: Helps support healthy focus and encouragement while also grounding.
  • Lavender: Helps support relaxation and calming. This one also helps with communicating feelings.
  • Bergamot: Uplifting and will help support healthy confidence levels. This one also helping foster self love and self worth.
  • Frankincense: Powerful cleanser of the spirit – grounding and can help during times of negativity.

Photosensitive Essential Oils

Photosensitive Essential Oils: What They Are and How to Use Them Safely

Essential oils are a beautiful way to support your well-being, but did you know some of them can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight? These are called photosensitive essential oils, and while they offer amazing benefits, they need a little extra care when used on the skin.

Photosensitive oils—like citrus varieties such as lemon, lime, and bergamot—contain natural compounds that can react with UV light, potentially causing irritation or discoloration. The good news? With a few simple precautions, you can still enjoy their uplifting and cleansing properties safely.

In this post, we’ll explore which essential oils are photosensitive, why it happens, and how to use them properly so you can enjoy all their benefits without worry.

When I first started using essential oils I had no idea that some oils could cause a burn. Crazy, right?

As we head into warmer months and more outside time, remember that some oils are photosensitive and cause a reaction that is uncomfortable when combined with sunlight.

Be mindful when applying the following if you plan to be in the sun. You can still use them, just apply on the feet or a covered area or take internally (I only ingest pure, certified therapeutic grade oils that I am positive have been tested).

Check out this gorgeous ebook for the basics and be sure to drop me a message if you’re not sure which oils are safe  I’m happy to help.

Calming Essential Oils

Among the countless benefits of essential oils, one of their most appealing attributes is that they can be used to create a calming atmosphere and promote feelings of peace and harmony. And who doesn’t need some feelings of peace and harmony?

I am a huge believer and supporter of aromatic use for emotional and mood management benefits. During stressful times, I turn to some of my favorite calming essential oils.

Keep reading to discover some of the most calming essential oils and how to use them.

Lavender

Lavender oil is known as one of the most calming essential oils because it has significant calming and relaxing properties when used aromatically, topically, and internally. The calming nature of Lavender essential oil makes it useful for easing feelings of tension and can help to promote soothing, positive feelings.

Bergamot

An incredibly unique essential oil, Bergamot is known to have both calming and uplifting properties. When stress levels or tensions are high, Bergamot oil provides a wonderful way to promote a calming atmosphere, while simultaneously encouraging uplifting feelings. With its light, citrusy aroma, Bergamot oil is an extremely useful calming essential oil, especially when it comes to dispelling feelings of stress and uplifting mood.

Clary Sage

The chemical profile of Clary Sage oil makes it one of the most relaxing, soothing, and balancing essential oils—something that people knew even long ago. In the Middle Ages, the Clary Sage plant was used for several purposes because of its soothing properties. Today, Clary Sage essential oil can be highly useful for promoting feelings of relaxation and calm.

Roman Chamomile

Not only is Roman Chamomile oil known to have calming effects on the skin, mind, and body, but it has a sweet, floral aroma as well. In ancient times, the Romans used chamomile oil to promote calming feelings of courage before going off to war. Thankfully, these same calming properties can still be useful today.

Ylang Ylang

Derived from yellow, star-shaped flowers found on the tropical Ylang Ylang tree, Ylang Ylang oil has several impressive qualities—including its ability to uplift the mood while also having a calming effect. The sweet and spicy floral aroma of Ylang Ylang oil has been known to lessen feelings of stress and tension, while simultaneously promoting a positive outlook.

The fresh, floral aroma of Petitgrain oil is not only inviting and comforting, but the oil also provides calming and relaxing benefits that can help to ease feelings of stress. In addition to calming feelings of stress and tension, Petitgrain oil can also be useful at bedtime when you want to create a serene environment for restful sleep.

Vetiver

Vetiver oil is known for its grounding, calming effect on the emotions, and for its calming nature. The rich, exotic aroma of Vetiver is quite unique, however, it has the ability to promote grounded, calm feelings after a busy or frazzled day. Whether you are trying to create a calm atmosphere at home for your family, or need to feel grounded again after an emotional day, Vetiver can be very useful for promoting the type of calm feelings you desire.
