The Foundation of Yoga: Returning to What Sustains
September has always felt like a month of renewal. The air shifts, the light changes, and there’s a quiet invitation to pause, reflect, and come back to what sustains us.
In the busyness of life, it’s easy to get swept away from our roots — the practices that ground us, steady us, and remind us of who we are beneath the noise. Yoga, at its heart, is not just movement. It’s a way of returning home.
I created The Foundation of Yoga — a 3-part digital series designed to guide you back to your roots with practices that nourish both body and spirit.
What’s Inside the Program
Yoga Practice: Gentle yet powerful practices to reconnect with breath, alignment, and awareness.
Discussion: Reflections on the deeper meaning of yoga, beyond the poses.
Mindfulness: Simple practices to weave presence and grounding into daily life.
This program is perfect for anyone feeling the call to reset — whether you’re beginning your yoga journey, returning after time away, or simply longing to reconnect with the essence of your practice.
The beauty of this series is that it’s completely self-paced. As a digital download, you can begin anytime, anywhere — letting the practices meet you right where you are.
September is the perfect moment to return to your foundation, to breathe deeply, and to remember what truly sustains you.
Begin your journey today! Download this program HERE!
Come back to your roots, your breath,to yourself.
Mindful Practice: Returning to Your Foundation
1. Ground Through Breath Sit comfortably with your feet on the floor or crossed on a cushion. Close your eyes and take 5 slow, deep breaths. With each inhale, imagine drawing nourishment from the earth. With each exhale, release what no longer serves you.
2. Root into the Present Place your hands over your heart and gently whisper to yourself: “I am here. I am rooted. I am sustained.”
3. Carry It With You Throughout the day, notice the moments when you feel scattered or pulled away. Pause, breathe, and silently repeat your affirmation to anchor back into your foundation.
“I return to my roots. I am grounded, sustained, and whole.”

Starting a home yoga practice can be a transformative journey for your mind, body, and spirit. Starting a yoga practice at home also offers numerous physical, mental, and emotional benefits. However, like starting anything, it can be scary and uncertain. By understanding a few tips to get started, you can begin with a little more knowledge and courage.
Here are some tips for beginners:
1. Set Your Intentions
Decide why you want to practice yoga (e.g., stress relief, flexibility, strength, or mindfulness).
Keep your goals realistic and focus on enjoying the process.
2. Start Small and Simple
Begin with shorter sessions (10-20 minutes) and gradually increase duration.
Focus on basic poses like Child’s Pose, Downward Dog, Warrior I, and Cat-Cow.
3. Choose the Right Style
Explore styles like Hatha (gentle and beginner-friendly), Vinyasa (flow-based), or Yin (deep stretches).
Experiment with different classes or teachers to find what resonates with you.
4. Create a Comfortable Space
Set up a quiet, clutter-free area with enough room to stretch and move.
Use props like a yoga mat, blocks, and straps to support your practice.
5. Wear Comfortable Clothing
Choose clothing that allows free movement and doesn’t restrict your breathing.
6. Listen to Your Body
Avoid pushing yourself into pain; yoga is about progress, not perfection.
Use modifications as needed and honor where your body is each day.
7. Practice Breathing Techniques
Focus on deep, steady breathing (like Ujjayi breath) to calm your mind and enhance your practice.
Pair your breath with your movements for a meditative flow.
8. Stay Consistent
Try to practice regularly, even if it’s just a few minutes daily.
Consistency is key to building strength, flexibility, and mindfulness.
9. Seek Guidance
Consider joining a beginner’s yoga class or using online videos/tutorials.
A qualified instructor can ensure proper alignment and provide personalized tips.
10. Be Patient and Kind to Yourself
Yoga is a journey, not a destination. Celebrate small progress and enjoy the learning process.
Remember, everyone’s practice looks different—focus on your unique path.
Check out these additional tips for beginning a home yoga practice. If you don’t think you have the perfect space, maybe this article will help you get started!

This week I begin a 30 day accountability to myself and to many others who are ready to get back on the mat (or in the chair). I can’t wait to explore so many ways to get back into a daily practice, even if it is for just 15 minutes.
My hope is to show that it can be done and it doesn’t have to be a big deal; in a studio, with perfect clothes, perfect music and perfect bodies. It can be done anywhere, anytime for anyBODY.
Take just a few minutes to check out my mission and why I am ready for August 1st!

They say it takes twenty one days to create a new habit. I am not sure who “they” are but it seems like a logical and probably pretty true statement. Years ago when I had my great wake up and decided that I needed major changes in my life, I wanted the results to happen immediately but was kindly reminded by a friend that for as long as it took to get unhealthy, it would take that long to get healthy. And, it really did.
What began for me as a weight loss program became a life changing experience that altered the path that I was on and opened hundreds of doors for me. I not only lost the 80+ pounds and created many healthy habits I also discovered a holistic approach to living and an incredibly grateful heart.
One of the biggest game changers came by learning the beautiful practice of Yoga. After a few years of practicing I became a Yoga teacher and sixteen years later, here I am. I teach many classes a week but have honestly lost much of my personal practice. I am like anyone else and make a million excuses as to why I don’t “have the time” to unroll my mat or pull up a chair. I decided it is time for that to change!
Starting August 1st I am inviting anyone to join me in sharing accountability to practice Yoga consistently(again). Each day I will send out a 15-30 minute Yoga gentle session directly to your inbox that you can do on your own time and not have to worry about logging in at a certain time. Knowing that I have people like you counting on me to get on the mat, I am hoping to cultivate that glorious habit of practicing Yoga consistently again. If you need help creating a home practice time and space, check out this blog post.
Will you join me in this habit creating Yoga accountability month? It is simple to sign up!

Behold my friends, the spring has come; the Earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of this love. —Sitting Bull
Ahhhh….Can you believe that spring is just around the corner? Soon we will push our clocks forward and the longer days will be upon on us. I can’t wait! I love a good snowy day, but to see the beginnings of green growth popping out is so exciting to me! When I recently was out raking some old stuff up in the garden I was thrilled to see a little green in the wildflower area.
I love spring and the symbolism it represents to me. It is during the springtime that we often think of beginnings, newness, and growth. I can recall at least four times in my life that major changes occurred in March. This is a great time to begin to cultivate your “soil” so that soon you can plant seeds of intention. One way to do this is to write down anything in your life you wish to increase—friendships, health, abundance or joy, peace, etc. Be clear about your visions, review your intentions often, and dream big!
While you are preparing yourself for a season of growth, this is also a time to eliminate the old stuff of the past season that is leftover–things like thoughts of limitation, fears or doubts. That kind of clutter can easily invade your precious garden of growth. I like to think of it much like my actual garden bed in my backyard where last years leaves, twigs, trash and growth clutter and cover the soil. If I want to give the new growth any chance to break through, I better take the time to clear away the old stuff. I like to call this preparing our soil for a new season of growth.
Pay close attention this month as you will daily changes around you, if you opt to pay attention. As we connect with Nature we also connect with ourselves. We realize that we too are ever-changing and growing beings. We can set the seeds of intention and begin to nurture and cultivate what we wish to have growing in our lives. It here we are reminded of the union that Life offers.
Be sure to check out my upcoming March classes around these topics. Also, I am offering lots of virtual classes as I heal from knee surgery and so that the people requesting to join can do so from wherever they are. Be sure to also check out the special sacral chakra class where we will learn all about our own center of creativity and the potential for growth. I also have two virtual chair yoga sessions—I can show you how I adapt my practice to my own body’s need for healing.
I would love to share space with you as we welcome in a new season.
xo.

1. Follow the sunlight. Do what makes you feel happy and warm.
2. Take your time. Bloom when you’re ready, no need to rush.
3. Be yourself. Wherever you are, bring your own spring with you.
4. Make friends. Surround yourself with those who care and support.
5. Smile bright. Spread your colors into the world.
6. Stand tall. Be proud of everything you do and achieve.
7. Stay grounded. Keep yourself connected – water your roots often.
8. Have faith. Know that the sun always emerges from the clouds.
9. Don’t mind bees. Even the bees are your friends. Do your thing, and let busybodies play their part.
10. Feel the rain. Open your pores and drink in every season.

Love is not something we give or get; it is something that we nurture and grow, a connection that can only be cultivated between two people when it exists within each one of them – we can only love others as much as we love ourselves. – Brené Brown
As we move into February, I hope that this will be a month filled with an abundance of love, especially for yourself. As we know, this kind of abundant love comes from our inner heart and must be first directed at ourselves.
Learning to love who we are can be the doorway to experiencing a life filled with joy and richness.
For most people it is much easier to love others than it is to love ourselves. Speaking of others, be sure to check out for my LOVE gifts mini-catalog for your beloved or for you! There is something for everyone!
When we are living busy lives that are filled with everything that comes with being human; stressful jobs, demanding families, chronic pain, overpacked schedules. it is incredibly difficult to feel healthy and comfortably rested. When that is our overall experience day to day, the result is that we become stressed and burned out.
In order to nurture the health of our mind, body, and soul, we need ways to recenter and restore. We need to learn to cultivate these practices in short spurts throughout the day. A quick walk, reading a chapter in a book, calling a friend are just some of the things that can feed your soul.
Become a master at self care.
Over the years I have become a master at the art of self-care. It was not always this way and over time my entire being had taken a toll. Now, I take daily walks to reconnect. I have developed a rich morning routine. A good network of friends is a must. Having satisfaction with work is key. Working a jigsaw puzzle feeds me. And there is not a day that goes by without a luxurious bubble bath to sooth my soul.
One of the first steps is to simplify your schedule and make time for YOU.
It may sounds difficult, but the rewards are so rich. And the best part? By loving on yourself, you will in turn be loving on others with a better attitude and less stress. I’d love for you to take a listen to a recent podcast I was a guest on that describes how I went into the heart and learned to love myself and my life.
Speaking of loving yourself, I am offering a self-care package this month that is worth every penny. You’ll get three beautiful yoga practices to add to your library, my custom blend called UNCONDITIONAL, a soothing foot salve and bath bombs all bundled into a gorgeous package. I even have a special package just for the special men in your life!
This month is also a time to look at your physical heart and make a commitment to care for it through healthy choices like eating clean and exercise. Find ways to incorporate movement into your life and your heart will be happy. When the days are cold and blustery, consider making a hearty vegetable soup to warm your insides or enjoy a warm bath infused with lavender. Also, taking a few minutes everyday to be grateful is a powerful exercise in cultivating love. I find that gratitude is the best way to stay in a full heart of goodness.
As we focus on love this month be sure that beyond all the candies, flowers and romance, remember that YOU are enough exactly as you are. You are worth it and your life has purpose and meaning.
Look into your eyes and see what I see.
I have a variety of ways this month to nurture your mind, body and spirit. My events are all virtual and can take place anywhere! Be sure to sign up so that you get the goodies that often come with the learning opportunity.
You are whole and also part of larger and larger circles of wholeness you many not even know about. You are never alone. And you already belong. You belong to humanity. You belong to life. You belong to this moment, this breath. ~Jon Kabat-Zinn

Mind. Body. Spirit.
It has been my greatest joy to link arms with people who are seeking out an inner connection to who they are. Through the practice of Yoga we can dive deep into the essence of who we are and begin the beautiful process of loving who we are.
Through my own self-exploration, I have walked the journey to discovering myself and love to share aspects of that in my practice with others. By saying yes, I promise to you that I will take your intentions into my heart and offer you a doorway to health of the mind, body and spirit.
Each day will include a guided yoga practice and mediation, positive affirmations, recipes and guidance on a mindful meal, and more.
Essential Oils & Crystals
This program also includes seven blends of essential oils—one for each day! You will learn what they are and the benefits of each blend. With guidance on how to use them it is my hope that you will not just smell the joy, but you will feel the benefits of using them intentionally.
You will also receive a gemstone for each day. Perfectly chosen just for you and the lesson of the day, you will learn how and why crystals play a big role in finding peace and harmony in the mind, body and spirit.
