Are You Ready

This week I begin a 30 day accountability to myself and to many others who are ready to get back on the mat (or in the chair). I can’t wait to explore so many ways to get back into a daily practice, even if it is for just 15 minutes.

My hope is to show that it can be done and it doesn’t have to be a big deal; in a studio, with perfect clothes, perfect music and perfect bodies. It can be done anywhere, anytime for anyBODY.

Take just a few minutes to check out my mission and why I am ready for August 1st!

30 Days of Yoga Together

They say it takes twenty one days to create a new habit. I am not sure who “they” are but it seems like a logical and probably pretty true statement. Years ago when I had my great wake up and decided that I needed major changes in my life, I wanted the results to happen immediately but was kindly reminded by a friend that for as long as it took to get unhealthy, it would take that long to get healthy. And, it really did.

What began for me as a weight loss program became a life changing experience that altered the path that I was on and opened hundreds of doors for me. I not only lost the 80+ pounds and created many healthy habits I also discovered a holistic approach to living and an incredibly grateful heart.

One of the biggest game changers came by learning the beautiful practice of Yoga. After a few years of practicing I became a Yoga teacher and sixteen years later, here I am. I teach many classes a week but have honestly lost much of my personal practice. I am like anyone else and make a million excuses as to why I don’t “have the time” to unroll my mat or pull up a chair. I decided it is time for that to change!

Starting August 1st I am inviting anyone to join me in sharing accountability to practice Yoga consistently(again). Each day I will send out a 15-30 minute Yoga gentle session directly to your inbox that you can do on your own time and not have to worry about logging in at a certain time. Knowing that I have people like you counting on me to get on the mat, I am hoping to cultivate that glorious habit of practicing Yoga consistently again. If you need help creating a home practice time and space, check out this blog post.

Will you join me in this habit creating Yoga accountability month? It is simple to sign up!

March Inspiration

Behold my friends, the spring has come; the Earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of this love. —Sitting Bull

Ahhhh….Can you believe that spring is just around the corner? Soon we will push our clocks forward and the longer days will be upon on us. I can’t wait! I love a good snowy day, but to see the beginnings of green growth popping out is so exciting to me! When I recently was out raking some old stuff up in the garden I was thrilled to see a little green in the wildflower area.

I love spring and the symbolism it represents to me. It is during the springtime that we often think of beginnings, newness, and growth. I can recall at least four times in my life that major changes occurred in March. This is a great time to begin to cultivate your “soil” so that soon you can plant seeds of intention. One way to do this is to write down anything in your life you wish to increase—friendships, health, abundance or joy, peace, etc. Be clear about your visions, review your intentions often, and dream big!

While you are preparing yourself for a season of growth, this is also a time to eliminate the old stuff of the past season that is leftover–things like thoughts of limitation, fears or doubts. That kind of clutter can easily invade your precious garden of growth. I like to think of it much like my actual garden bed in my backyard where last years leaves, twigs, trash and growth clutter and cover the soil. If I want to give the new growth any chance to break through, I better take the time to clear away the old stuff. I like to call this preparing our soil for a new season of growth.

Pay close attention this month as you will daily changes around you, if you opt to pay attention. As we connect with Nature we also connect with ourselves. We realize that we too are ever-changing and growing beings. We can set the seeds of intention and begin to nurture and cultivate what we wish to have growing in our lives. It here we are reminded of the union that Life offers.

Be sure to check out my upcoming March classes around these topics. Also, I am offering lots of virtual classes as I heal from knee surgery and so that the people requesting to join can do so from wherever they are. Be sure to also check out the special sacral chakra class where we will learn all about our own center of creativity and the potential for growth. I also have two virtual chair yoga sessions—I can show you how I adapt my practice to my own body’s need for healing.

I would love to share space with you as we welcome in a new season.

xo.

Lessons from a Flower

Flowers represent everything beautiful about springtime – and they also make pretty good teachers on how to live fully in any season. Here are ten inspiring thoughts from the mind of a daffodil, tulip, rose, or whichever bud you prefer!

1. Follow the sunlight. Do what makes you feel happy and warm.

2. Take your time. Bloom when you’re ready, no need to rush.

3. Be yourself. Wherever you are, bring your own spring with you.

4. Make friends. Surround yourself with those who care and support.

5. Smile bright. Spread your colors into the world.

6. Stand tall. Be proud of everything you do and achieve.

7. Stay grounded. Keep yourself connected – water your roots often.

8. Have faith. Know that the sun always emerges from the clouds.

9. Don’t mind bees. Even the bees are your friends. Do your thing, and let busybodies play their part.

10. Feel the rain. Open your pores and drink in every season.

February Love

Love is not something we give or get; it is something that we nurture and grow, a connection that can only be cultivated between two people when it exists within each one of them – we can only love others as much as we love ourselves. – Brené Brown

As we move into February, I hope that this will be a month filled with an abundance of love, especially for yourself. As we know, this kind of abundant love comes from our inner heart and must be first directed at ourselves. Learning to love who we are can be the doorway to experiencing a life filled with joy and richness. For most people it is much easier to love others than it is to love ourselves. Speaking of others, be sure to check out for my LOVE gifts mini-catalog for your beloved or for you! There is something for everyone!

When we are living busy lives that are filled with everything that comes with being human–stressful jobs, demanding families, chronic pain, overpacked schedules— it is incredibly difficult to feel healthy and comfortably rested. When that is our overall experience day to day, the result is that we become stressed and burned out. In order to nurture the health of our mind, body, and soul, we need ways to recenter and restore. We need to learn to cultivate these practices in short spurts throughout the day, and also in longer stretches. A quick walk, reading a chapter in a book, calling a friend are just some of the things that can feed your soul.

Over the years I have become a master at the art of self-care. It was not always this way and over time my entire being had taken a toll. Now, I take daily walks to reconnect, I have developed a rich morning routine, I have a good network of friends, I am satisfied with my work beyond words, I enjoy working a jigsaw puzzle, and there is not a day that goes by without a luxurious bubble bath to sooth my soul. One of the first steps is to simplify your schedule and make time for YOU. It may sounds difficult, but the rewards are so rich. And the best part? By loving on yourself, you will in turn be loving on others with a better attitude and less stress. I’d love for you to take a listen to a recent podcast I was a guest on that describes how I went into the heart and learned to love myself and my life.

Speaking of loving yourself, I am offering a self-care package this month that is worth every penny. You’ll get three beautiful yoga practices to add to your library, my custom blend called UNCONDITIONAL, a soothing foot salve and bath bombs all bundled into a gorgeous package. I even have a special package just for the special men in your life!

This month is also a time to look at your physical heart and make a commitment to care for it through healthy choices like eating clean and exercise. Find ways to incorporate movement into your life and your heart will be happy. When the days are cold and blustery, consider making a hearty vegetable soup to warm your insides or enjoy a warm bath infused with lavender. Also, taking a few minutes everyday to be grateful is a powerful exercise in cultivating love. I find that gratitude is the best way to stay in a full heart of goodness.

As we focus on love this month be sure that beyond all the candies, flowers and romance, remember that YOU are enough exactly as you are. You are worth it and your life has purpose and meaning.

Look into your eyes and see what I see.

I have a variety of ways this month to nurture your mind, body and spirit. My events are all virtual and can take place anywhere! Be sure to sign up so that you get the goodies that often come with the learning opportunity.

The beauty you see in me is simply a reflection of you. ~Rumi

Balancing Your Energy Centers

Are you curious about your energy centers, also known as chakras? Years ago I had heard about them but had no idea what they were. Since then I have spent years studying the chakra system and learning powerful ways to balance them so that my mind, body and spirit are optimal.

There are seven major energy centers in the body known as ‘Chakras’. Chakra is a Sanskrit word that means “wheel”. Our seven main chakras are connected to our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Blocked energy in our seven chakras can often lead to illness, so it’s important to understand what each chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely.

There are many ways to go about balancing the chakras but two of the most accessible, effective and relaxing practices are aromatherapy and crystal therapy. When paired correctly, crystals and essential oils can create potent combinations that help to release blocked energy and restore the body to full charge.

Chakras are invisible to the naked eye and yet interconnect our physical and spiritual selves. Each of the seven chakras is tied directly to a specific region and nerve center of the body. It is believed that each of the chakras absorbs and filters the energy that we emit through our thoughts and actions as well as through the thoughts and actions of all those that we come into contact with. When one of the chakras is out of balance as a result of negative energy flowing through it, it begins to spin too slowly or too fast. When a chakra is not balanced, it can effect that physical region of the body and also effect very specific aspects of our spiritual and emotional selves.

I am so excited to share with you an ENTIRE chakra series ONLINE. You can choose between investing in the entire series for a discounted bundle rate, or pick and choose which chakra you’d like to focus on. I am happy to help guide you through a quick assessment of which energy center you might want to address.

For each chakra we will focus on the aspects of that energy center and learn how to balance it through discussion, yoga session, a custom essential oil blend with gemstones, and a beautiful crystal. Cost per chakra is $30, or the entire series/blends/gemstones is $197 (valued at $315)Also included is a free downloadable ebook. Once registered you will get an email from me with content and a package in the mail!

2020 Year in Review

Ahhhhh.the final day of 2020. It has been a transformative year for me in so many ways. When I pulled up my #bestnine photos I was happy to see that two of my favorite quotes made the cut.

Mindset IS everything.

Like so many people, my life that I knew came to an abrupt stop March 7th—my studio closed, the gym I taught at closed, the long term care centers and clinics I saw clients in closed, and my daughters adult day programming closed.I needed to generate an income to sustain my life AND meet the needs of my kid. Within 36 hours my entire business went online and I was again navigating meaningful and purposeful activities for my girl to do while at home, and still maintain her social skills, advocating skills and navigating the community.

My mindset HAD to shift, and shift quickly. What once was daunting to me, has now become second nature. I actually like the camera! And the growth I have seen in my daughter these last nine months has solidified my belief that the services in the community need a serious overhaul before I would consider putting her back in a program.

The other quote that popped up inspired me to be open to anything…to allow myself to become what I want by moving through the challenges with grace, hard work and a bunch of faith. The cute little gal in the photos showed up so much because my life changed SO much this year, I was able to spend weekly time with my little mini-me. The special bond that we have developed would not have happened if not for the major changes to my work schedule.

A major ankle surgery and looking forward to the next season of my life inspired me to practice radical self-love. To say no when I needed to, to take extra long bubble baths and be willing to receive help and accept a pace of healing that has been incredibly slow. I recognized the boundaries that were needed to keep my heart in a good space. I learned to let go.

For me, 2020 has been remarkable. My word this year was REVERENCE—a deep honor and respect for all things and experiences. I’d say I embraced it beautifully.

Third Eye Chakra

YOUR VISION WILL BECOME CLEAR ONLY WHEN YOU CAN LOOK INTO YOUR OWN HEART. WHO LOOKS OUTSIDE, DREAMS; WHO LOOKS INSIDE, AWAKES. ~ CARL JUNG

The Third Eye Chakra is located in the brain, at the brow, above the base of the nose. The gift of this chakra is seeing – both inner and outer worlds. The energy of this chakra allows us to experience clear thought as well as gifts of spiritual contemplation and self reflection. Through the gift of seeing we can internalize the outer world and with symbolic language we can externalize the inner world. The energy of this chakra allows us to access our inner guidance that comes from the depths of our being. It allows us to cut through illusion and to access deeper truths – to see beyond the mind, beyond the words. The “way of the third eye” is seeing everything as it is from a point of “witness” or “observer”, or from simply being mindful – moment by moment.

LOCATION: center of the forehead

REPRESENTS: self reflection and knowing

ASSOCIATED ANATOMY: pituitary gland, left brain hemisphere, left eye, nose, ears, sinuses, conscious mind

BODILY FUNCTIONS: endocrine system, neurological system, small muscle control

PHYSICAL ELEMENT: light

COLOR: indigo

AFFIRMATION: I see

Understanding the subtle changes in our physical body and emotions can lead us to understand more about who we are. By paying close attention we can find out throughout self discovery what we need to feel more balanced and harmonious.

Balanced: A balanced Sixth Chakra is having a spiritual awareness of movement and change, knowing that there is an appropriate time for endings as well as beginnings. It is having the ability to release old thought patterns and embrace the new. When you balance the third eye chakra, you experience clarity of thought and vision, you are imaginative, intuitive, and see the events in your life as symbolic and lessons to be learned. You will remember your dreams and contemplate their meanings. You are flexible in your opinions.

Excessive: When the third eye is excessively abuzz with energy, we experience headaches, hallucinations, nightmares, and difficulty concentrating. A person with excessive sixth chakra may lack concentration with the mind flitting here and there. There can be obsessiveness, nightmares, spending far too much time in self-evaluation with no results. Often times they can be narrow focused with a lack of mental flexibility. A person may be often religious but self-righteously so to the point of becoming tyrannical. They tend to be over analytical but missing main factors.

Deficient: When this chakra is underactive, there is no imagination or visualization skill. A person may have difficulty changing their minds—they only see one side of a story which is their way. Generally, they cannot see the outcomes or ramifications of their actions. They don’t learn from their mistakes and are doomed to keep repeating them. People with underactive third eye chakras are undisciplined, weak-willed, and afraid of success, they are unable to set goals, or when set, their goals are very low. Visioning and dreaming is a challenge. When this chakra is deficient, we have a poor memory, experience eye problems, have difficulty recognizing patterns, and can’t visualize well.

Amethyst stimulates the third eye crown as itt helps in enhancing cognitive perception as well as accelerating the development of intuitive and psychic abilities. Also, its inherent high frequency purifies the aura of any negative energy or attachments and creates a protective shield of light around the body. Amethyst helps in developing an ability to think more clearly and decision making. It works deeply on the emotional level to help in building the skill to recognize emotional patterns.

YOGA FOR THE THIRD EYE CHAKRA

This practice will open and build awareness in your third eye chakra and you may begin to see everything in your life more clearly. The third eye chakra is associated with vision, reality, inspiration, intuition, perception of subtle dimensions and movements of energy, access to mystical states, illumination, connection to wisdom, insight.

Candle Gazing: A candle gazing meditation helps bring energy to the third eye, increases concentration, and improves memory. By channeling our thoughts and focusing our mind, we can regain wasted energy and move towards peace. Through consistent open-eye meditation, you can increase your memory and find an increased state of awareness, which will hone your attention and focus. When your gaze is focused on the flame of a candle, you see nothing else. This allows your mind to fully focus on the candle as everything else in the room fades away from your awareness. At the same time, any invasive thoughts or distractions will also fade away.

Nadi Shodhana Pranayama:“Nadi” is a Sanskrit word meaning “subtle energy channel” and “shuddhi” means cleansing or purifying. So in yogic speak, this practice cleanses the subtle energy channels so that our prana (life force energy or breath) can flow freely through the body. Inhaling through the left nostril triggers the rest/relaxation response (parasympathetic nervous system) and inhaling through the right stimulates the fight/flight response (sympathetic nervous system). Alternate nostril breathing is about bringing these two opposites into balance. The benefits include: calms and centers the mind, brings the mind to the present moment, increases respiratory health, stress relieving, relaxing for the body and mind, helps purify and balance the the subtle energy channels, thereby ensuring smooth flow of prana (life force) through the body, helps harmonize the left and right hemispheres of the brain, which correlate to the logical and emotional sides of our personality, help to maintain body temperature

Child’s Pose: Child’s Pose is a true resting pose. A pause for the mind, and the body. Placing your forehead, specifically your ‘third eye’ down on the mat (or on stacked fists) has an instant calming and soothing effect on the brain. The inward fold of the body, with the eyes looking back towards you sends a signal to your brain that you’re safe.  This posture creates a light pressure which stimulates the third eye chakra. As you stretch leaning forward and breathe in and out, the practice brings your mental and physical state to a relaxed and stress-free position.

Downward Dog: This standing, forward bend calms the mind (and sixth chakra), stretches the calves, arms, and spine and energizes the rest of the body. This posture helps us to experience ease of physical balance as well as mental balance. Calms the brain and helps relieve stress and mild depression while also energizing the body. This simple and yet complex posture can also decrease tension and headaches, decrease anxiety and provide whole body circulation.

Forward Fold: When we fold, we lower out head below our heart which helps the tapping of the third eye, and awakens the energy stored in the chakra and cleanses it. The pose further accentuates the feeling of relaxation, works deeply on the hamstring and works on the spine as well. The flow of blood is directed towards third eye chakra in this pose.

Wide-Legged Forward Fold: Another inverted posture that brings your head below your heart and provides a powerful shift for your perception. This pose has benefits on the brain as it helps relaxation, and in some cases the alleviation of symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress as well as insomnia, fatigue and headache.

Head-to-Knee Pose: This seated pose brings with it a sense of grounding while also developing flexibility in the back, hamstrings, and hips. Sitting tall with a long spine and legs outstretched in front of you, bend your right knee and place the sole of the right foot against the inner left thigh.

Essential Yoga–Gratitude

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow. – Melodie Beattie

This workshop features oils and blends used to open the heart to return to love and appreciation. The selection includes oils designed to inspire us to dig in and see where our heart is making sure our priorities are aligned with our true purpose.

Online Yoga

My yoga videos aren’t the best there is.

They aren’t made with the top cameras or super amazing equipment but I also think that is why they are so great.

My videos are real. I run out of breath during practice, I stumble and have to steady myself, and I have to pause often. Maybe that makes it so that I am relatable to my audience, right?

Any honestly, the fact that I am getting really uncomfortable and really vulnerable is a huge accomplishment! I have always said I couldn’t do videos because I’m not nearly as good as any of the other superstar online yoga teachers. But I realized that I don’t need to be amazing, I just need to be real!

And I need to keep growing everyday! One day I will look back on today and think, man I’m so glad I started! Look at me now!

If you’d like access to my online library that is growing everyday, I would love to practice with you. Shoot me a message.
